THE PROJECTStudent Expression For my junior project I started Kihei Charter's student newspaper. While I did not hit the ground running and the production was cut short by the Covid lock downs, it was a relative success. Bi-weekly production on top of a consistent viewership made the amateur news paper an achievement! To translate this success to my senior project I thought of putting a spin on the previous project.
I would create a virtual newspaper to adapt to the climate covid created. However, the real innovation would come from my idea to highlight student voices. After what could only be described as one of the most tumultuous years in American history I saw an increased interest and concern among my friends and other students on various subjects, and with it an opportunity. Student opinions often have insight and views that aren't commonly heard among adults. While I was only able to wrangle in 5 student submissions, The articles were all engaging and insightful. Just like last year I did not start off this project running, but I got there in the end. |

In this project I really utilized communication skills and global awareness. This was done through a holistic approach to my project. Understanding that these skills were not merely a part of the project, but the project itself. Some examples of when I used communication skills were in my extravagantly intelligent conversations with people I had no connection with and, in a different sense, through my writing. Global awareness was truly a significant attribute of the project. Forcing not only myself, but my readers to suffer through the constantly bleak news of the world is global awareness at its most fundamental.
